How to send annotated screenshots to Discord with Highlite

Updated October 12, 2026

Quick answer

Create a webhook in your Discord server, then click Add Discord in the Export panel, paste its URL and save. To send, pick a capture mode, click your Discord destination, add an optional message and click Send to Discord (Premium).

Connect Discord once

  1. In Discord, open Server Settings → Integrations → Webhooks (you need the Manage Webhooks permission), click New Webhook, pick the channel, then Copy Webhook URL.
  2. In Highlite, open the Export panel with Export or Ctrl+Shift+E (Cmd+Shift+E on Mac) and, under Destination, click Add Discord. The Export destinations settings open.
  3. In the Discord section, click Add a Discord webhook and paste the Webhook URL. The name is optional: it defaults to the name of the webhook in Discord.
  4. Under Post to, choose Channel, Existing thread (then paste its Thread ID) or New forum post.
  5. Click Save. Highlite checks the webhook with Discord and shows Will post as followed by its name. Send test posts a small test image to check the connection.

Send a screenshot

Once a Discord webhook is saved, it is listed under Destination in the Export panel, by name.

  1. Annotate the page and open the Export panel.
  2. Under Capture, choose Viewport, Full page or Selection.
  3. Under Destination, click your Discord destination. Without Premium, it carries a Pro label and the upgrade screen opens first.
  4. Type a note in Message (optional). For a forum, give the Post title.
  5. Click Send to Discord. The panel shows Sent to and the destination name, with Open in Discord to jump to the message.

Threads and forum channels

To post into an existing thread, turn on Developer Mode in Discord (User Settings → Advanced), right-click the thread and choose Copy Thread ID. For a forum channel, create the webhook on the forum itself and choose New forum post: each screenshot then opens its own post, with the title you type when sending.

What the channel receives

The annotated image, your message, and a small "Shared with Highlite" footer. With Include the page URL and title turned on in the settings, the page title and a link to it are added. Mentions in your message, including @everyone and @here, never ping anyone. A capture over Discord’s upload limit is compressed until it fits, and the panel says so.

Limitations

  • Sending to Discord requires Premium and a Highlite account (Google sign-in).
  • Forums that require a tag on every post are not supported yet: make tags optional, or post into an existing thread.
  • A message is limited to 2000 characters, Discord’s own limit.
  • Discord webhooks are saved in this browser only. On another computer or browser, add them again.

Premium is an optional plan ($4.99/month or $49.99/year) that adds JSON export and sending screenshots to Slack, Discord or a webhook. Every annotation tool and screenshots stay free. See pricing

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to add a bot to my Discord server?

No. Highlite posts through an ordinary Discord webhook, created in the channel settings. There is no bot to invite and no Discord account to connect in Highlite.

Does Highlite see the screenshots I send to Discord?

No. The screenshot goes directly from your browser to Discord. It never passes through a Highlite server, and the webhook URL stays in your browser.

Can I send Highlite screenshots to Discord for free?

Yes, by copying: choose Copy to clipboard in the Export panel and paste the image into Discord. Posting straight to a channel, thread or forum from Highlite is a Premium feature.

Does sending to Discord work in Firefox and Edge?

Yes. The Discord destination works the same on Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Brave, with Premium.
