Everything works exactly as it does on Chrome: text highlighting in five colors, sticky notes, free drawing, arrows, and screenshots you can download as PNG or copy straight to your clipboard. It also happens to suit why people choose Brave in the first place: your annotations are written to your browser storage and stay there. Nothing is uploaded, no account is required to annotate, and we have no way to read what you marked up. Brave Shields will not interfere with any of it, since Highlite never calls out to a server while you work.

What Highlite does on Brave
Brave runs Chrome Web Store extensions as they are, so Highlite works there exactly as on Chrome: text highlighting, sticky notes, text boxes, freehand drawing, arrows and shapes, five colors, four sizes, undo and redo. Annotations are saved in Brave, tied to the page URL, and restored when you return. Capture the viewport or a selected area, then download the PNG or copy it to the clipboard.
Installed from the Chrome Web Store
There is no separate Brave store: open the Chrome Web Store in Brave, click Add to Brave, confirm, and the extension is in your toolbar. It updates through the same channel as on Chrome, so Brave users get every release at the same time as Chrome users, Premium included.
Brave Shields and privacy
Highlite makes no network request while you annotate, so Brave Shields have nothing to block and do not interfere. Annotations stay in your Brave profile; the only data that leaves the browser is a screenshot you deliberately send to Slack with Premium, or the email you sign in with.
Limitations on Brave
- Highlite cannot run on browser-internal pages (brave://) or on extension store pages; the icon is grayed out there.
- Annotations are stored in this browser profile only. They are not synced to another device or another browser, and uninstalling the extension deletes them.
- Annotations are positioned on the page as it was laid out when you made them. A page that renders differently later, or content generated dynamically, can shift or lose an annotation.
- Brave on Android and iOS is not supported: Highlite is a desktop extension.
